Yes, that's right, #50pFriday is indeed back. And Bach. Today I present one of the most historically important records of all time. So historic in fact it has its very own Wiki page. It's Candian piano maverick Glenn Gould's recording of the Bach Goldberg Variations. And before you run away screaming about classic records being horrid, this one isn't. The music was originally written to aid and promote restful sleep for a very important, probably pompous and very weary Count Kaiserling back in 1740 something. All 32 tracks are short, charming and very Bach. The version that is 50p today comes from the first French pressing, which some think sounds the best, and certainly has the most lovely artwork by very hip photographer Paul Haf (who is worth looking up). There is a link to the album here.

Over the next few weeks #50pFriday will be changing, but more about that another time.

Until then I'd like to wish you a Happy 2014, and also mention that my good chum The Quadfather has asked me to sell some of his Italian soundtracks. There are a handful - from rare giallo scores to saucy classics like The Cat In Heat. Please email me for the short list if you are interested.

Thanks for listening
