Yes, good morning. I hope you are well.
It's cloudy here in Old London Town, so sadly it looks like the Solar eclipse will be the same as it was about 15 years ago, and that is obscured by clouds. Certainly where I am anyway. And when I got up this morning (slightly hungover from the staggeringly fine Ned Doheny gig at Greenwich Yacht Club last night), the most appropriate album I could think of for today's celestial events would be the classic Moodog And Suncat Suites. Yes, I know loads of you have it, but loads of you might not, and it truly is a magestic bit of work. Just think about it - seven decades ago a very fine London jazz man hears the first recordings of Moondog in the early 1950s, is so taken and influenced by them decides to create an album - one side of covers, the other side of his own music inspired by the bearded deaf one. The results are extraordinary, charismatic and memorable. The album can be found here. And for this special astronomical day the CD is £1.99.
Last week I forgot to warn you that there is a Vision On coming up this week, with myself and the lovely Corinne Drewery. It is a night of music and daftness encouraged by glue, paper, cardboard, scissors. It is much more fun that you might first think. I will attempt to attach a flyer on this email, but that may well go wrong, so the details are as follows: Wed 25th March, 7:30, in the bar called / at 125 Church Street, N16. Free. In fact I just tried to attach it as a flyer and got a "fatal error" message, so you can downlaod it here if you can be bothered.
If you have a TV, keep you ear / eye out for the new Specsavers advert, which features a cue from the Cults Percussion LP.
And finally, a charming piece of bizarre old American TV featuring the legendary Bruce Haack and his dancing partner, Miss Nelson. Check that leotard. More odd news about them possibly next week. And I don't mean leotards.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
