Good afternoon. I hope all is groovy.
Today is Friday, the Friday that leads into the weekend that leads in to the summer half term break. As a result, I have to go on holiday with my naughty children. They are way more excited than I am at the thought of a few days away from N16. But I have got excited about #50pFriday. And so instead of the usual one album there are several, two based on the fact that I will still be away this time next week. The holiday plan is to go to Greece before their economic meltdown. And if there is an economic meltdown when I am there I shall give the country all the 50 pences that come in this week. This may not be enough for them, but I mean well - so well in fact that there is a very Greek theme to one of the new albums up for grabs. So, we have 1) stuff already made available this month 2) a new album for today - a very special holiday fun type thing and 3) a new one for next week with a strong (and sexy) Greek theme.
The holiday fun one is an album by Ray Barretto, the rare one with a cue from Mean Streets on it. The Greek one is a soundtrack by Mikis Theodorakis called Pheadra, which is oddly erotic in my book and most certainly worth exploring. All fabulous 50p things can be found right here and will be available until I get back from hols. So tell your friends.
On another more visual tip, here is my "Vinyl Sweep" - I was lucky enough to be given £100 to spend on records in ten minutes. It was much harder than I first thought as the shop has no cataloging system, so you get absolutely no clues as to where any genres in the shop might be. Such in the madness of Vinyl Pimp in Hackney Wick.
And then there is this most odd thing - an 1976 BBC documentary about automatons, spooky animated dollies, greased pigs and clowns and stuff. It was the ancient and unique collection of Jack Donovan, who was quite obviously charming but raving mad too.
Annoyingly there is no news of Galactic Nightmare. I'm hearing waiting times of new vinyl are heading towards the seven month mark, but I think we might have avoided that. More news in due course.
I now have to go and pack my bag. Sadly it is not big enough to contain my entire novelty holiday shirt collection, so I may well have to compromise and only wear one per day, and not three as originally planned.
Thanks for listening.
