Hello, I hope all is groovy.
Things are a bit bonkers here as I’m moving. Moving house, moving office moving children moving all things. Yes, I am moving from Stoke Newington to Stoke Newington. To a house with a garden in fact, so hopefully urban foxes will come in and wee and poo everywhere. This means there may be little contact or replies for any Trunk email for a few days, afterall it’s going to take me an age just to reset my wardrobe. And let's not talk about moving several thousand LPs and singles into storage briefly as I work out what to do for a new office. I think this is an appropriate link, a sort of Vision On with Bob Hoskins. I'm convinced I used to watch this on the BBC on Sundays.
Anyway, even with all the upheavel this end I have still managed to sort out a #50pFriday album and must also apologies for 1) the fact that the link for last weeks worked for me and did not work for anyone else and 2) anyone who actually found the 50p album and clicked on the WAV version it changed to £4.50! Apparently this was due to the “backroom boys” sodding about with the front end of things and this was happening all over the vast web of greedbag shops everywhere. So we were not alone. News is, these glitches are fixes (yeah, right, I hear you gripe). Well let’s test it shall we? Here is a link to today’s #50pFriday LP - it's called NY Export: OPUS Jazz Ballet...and it's a classic slice of NYC modernist dance meets jazz meets sneakers (all groovy primal rhythms and beatnik posing with tights and converse on basically). Yes, it's wild baby wild. The B side of the LP features abstractions of West Side Story, a musical extravaganza produced a year before this crazy ballet. The music om the whole LP was by Robert Prince, who also worked with Francis Ford Coppola a few years later. Also on the link are all all other 50p LPs from the last month.
Also, here is a link to a most fascinating radio documentary from Radio 4 this week about avant-garde music in schools from the 1960s. All about the legendary John Paynter. Superb.
I am now off to dismantle my life here from the last ten years. It's going to be emotional. And probably a bit dusty in places.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
PS: For future reference, in case all links bugger up again, all #50pFriday releases are always here, on the #50pFriday page and that.
