Yes, hello I have news of the all new Trunk LP.
It's not the Basil Kirchin I hinted at earlier in the year, this one has risen to the surface first, but I can safely say it's rubbing against the grain of current tastes and put simply is a fine collection of very rare and most entertaining exotic British records. Followers of the Trunk output may well remember Resurrection, an LP I put together with my old chum, DJ and tastemaker Martin Green back in 2001. Well this LP was his idea, and has sprung from our mutual adoration and appreciation of bizarre British exotic records, those made in a pre Beatles era when talented British composers tried their hand at weird cha-cha-chas or strange exciting waltzes across Africa.
The LP is called Britxotica (pronounced "Britzotica" of course!) and has 16 tracks which included unusual early recording by Nadia Cattouse, Brian Fahey, Lynn Cornell and even Harry H Corbett. There are both songs and instrumentals, some of this reminds me of party music you'd hear on 1960s comedy films set on a cruise ship or Carry On films. There are 500 of these LPs. 150 have been reserved for shops. There will be a CD but only when the second LP - Britxotica Goes East come out.
To get yourself a copy of Britxotica on vinyl please fo the following:
Find yourself £15 in notes. This amount includes 1) money for the LP 2) money for postage ina brand new mailer and 3) money for change which will be included with the LP when sent back to you. Then find yourself a piece of paper on which you first write your name, your address and your order - ie "Can I have one Bitxotica LP please jonny".
Then at the bottom please draw something exotic. I thought of a pineapple. Then I thought of a Bounty Bar. Then I thought of a cocktail. I doesn't matter how good or bad this drawing is.
Then wrap your £15 in the paper, put it in an envelope (remember if it's a large letter you will need a large letter stamp) and send it to:
Jonny "Bananas" Trunk
State 51,
17 Hereford Street,
London E2 6EX
If you live abroad please email me and I can help sort you a copy.
Finally, you may also be interested in the fact that I have just put up the very rare recording of Philip Larkin Reading The Less Deceived (his first major work, apparently) for 50p as today is the 30th anniversary of Larkin's death. It can be found here.
The start of the annual Trunk Christmas folly begins this Friday.
Thanks for listening
