Hello, I hope all is groovy. Things are groovy here but also running late. This is because my "back end boys" have been having some issues with downloads and asked if I'd delay the 50p mailout until they were ready. So that's what I did.
Can I say thanks to everyone (lots of everyone) who bought the 20,000 Leagues book and LP set. These came in from the book distributor yesterday and were sent out yesterday too. They will be reaching you in due course.
Obviously sad news about Mr George Martin who died this week - so I've put both his brilliant early Radiophonic records up on the #50pFriday page today. Also, I have put up possibly one of the daftest LPs ever, one sung by dogs. The album story is simple - a Danish sound engineer who was a bit handy with tape editing recorded a number of dogs (Pussy, Pearl, Dolly, King and Caeser) and then made "music" with the barks. The Caroling Dogs Of Copenhagen is unique and even got in the charts. Please prepare yourself or read the wiki page. The LP can be found here.
I have news of one Trunk based event coming up (there will be more shortly), but this one is at Rough Trade East on March 21st. It is a launch for the 20,000 Leagues book / record and will have Liam Sparkes (tattooist to the stars) drawing nautical things on people, there will be nautical themed drinkies at the bar (like a Dark And Stormy, maybe a Depthcharge?) and me playing underwater records. It's free to get in. See you there. There will be news of the library book launch in the next mailout.
Now I have to go and get a train somewhere interesting, and this reminded me of this amazing film about a day in 1961 at Waterloo station. It was made by John Schlesinger who went on to make Midnight Cowboy and Far From The Madding Crowd. It really is lovely (and thanks to Miles from Wonderfulsound).
Thanks for listening.
Jonny
