Hello, I hope all is groovy - and probably a bit sad too, what with all the unexpected death this week. Like you I really cannot quite believe that two amazing, iconic and uniquely talented people have died this week - and so very young too. I have secretly wept in my car and got upset talking about it to chums.
I have no recordings for #50pFriday that really celebrate death (apart from a reincarnation album), so I thought about Ivor Cutler. He is dead, and he was amazing. And I was very sad when he died (ten years ago a few weeks back). And I have been saving up his debut album for a special moment. I'm not sure this is the the moment but I can't think of a better one, as he was brilliantly odd, brilliantly funny, very musical, and a totally unique talent. So today he can represent all creative, funny and very musical folk who have died this horrid week. His debut album - Who Tore Your Trousers is here.
My wife mentioned to me that Prince had been on The Muppets. I did not know about this, so here he is. He sings Starfish And Coffee (what a song, and hey, Sign Of The TImes has to be one of the great double LPs of ALL TIME) from about 5:50 onwards. Also, and oddly for The Muppetts, I only recognise Kermit and Prince. I have no idea who the other Muppets are.
Staying with Frank OZ creations, this is one of the funniest ever Bert And Ernie sketches, guaranteed to cheer pretty much anyone up. And while we are on the video thing, if you have not seen the legendary Two Soups by the late Victoria Wodd, it is here.
If you are up for a copy of the all new Bedazzled soundtrack pressing with bonus extras an email will arrive early next week - get your money ready. In the meantime, here is Drimble Wedge And The Vegetation. I now have to go to go Piccadilly Circus for a meeting about a cinema and will read about Prince on ther tube.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
