Hello, I hope all is groovy, And yes, it's a Thursday.
There is a new Trunk releases, which is why I'm not putting it on the #50pFriday mailing as some people (I am told) look no further than which album is 50p that day.
So, this new release starts back in 1972 with an independent art film collector / producer / director who owned the Art Film Centre off Piccadilly. His name - Anthony Roland. One evening he met Pamela Bone, a photographer who made unusual and very beautiful multi layered art slides. She preferred to see them projected instead of printed.
So taken with the slides, Roland decided to make a short art film exploring them: Circle Of Light was the result. Rather than accompany the film with poetry Pamela Bone had written, he wanted something more unusual, more challenging. So he commissioned recent aquaintances Delia Derbyshire and artist Elsa Stansfield to produce a soundrack.
At 32 minutes I believe it's the longest work Derbyshire's was involved with. Together with Stansfield (who at the time was exploring and obsessing about natural sounds) they produced a peculiar and unique ambient score which fuses sound design, tape manipulation and environmental recordings, such as birdsong. It has never been released before. And you can but it now, before it gets to the shops.
There is a limited run of 500 Copies of Circle Of Light on clear vinyl (yes, so it's Circle of Light on a circle of light). These are only available via ye olde Trunk shoppe right here. And yes, it says pre order, but don't worry about that.
There is a run of black vinyl copies - not limited, which can be found here.
You can read more about it here.
I must apologise in advance for an unsual small leap in vinyl prices, but as I'm sure many of you are aware the Euro / Sterling rate has changed and I press my wax in Germany, so it has got more expensive in the last two weeks. If it's any consolation, buyers of the clear wax versions will know that in about two weeks the LP with be worth at least twice what you buy it for now.
The LPs will be despatched late next week because we do not have the staff to send them all out earlier - loads of people are already on hols.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
