Hello, and happy 2017 to you. I hope you had a groovy Christmas. I had a groovy one, except for when my kids were arguing, which was most of the time. I did not get any socks from Santa this time, I got a pillow.
I'd like to thank everyone who bought fine things from ye olde Trunk shoppe over the festive period, those Cornflake packet prints were consumed in just a few hours - which was quite amazing.
Also amazing is today's #50pFriday offering. It's a mighty fine LP, dare I say classic: T Monk Plays D Ellington. Includes a sublime version of Caravan. A great, clever but brilliantly simple LP. I have also taken the traditional new year liberty of re-uping some classic 50p Friday LPs of the last few years as I do get asked to put old ones back in from time to time. All can be found here.
Also, a sad start to the year (oh no, not again) - the great John Berger just died. Here he is in his Bafta award winning art show. He's great. Really great. Watch the whole series and do no do any work.
This is a weird link I was sent this week by Jim from Ghost Box. It features slightly racey ladies on the front of geeky Yugoslavian computer magazines. I looked at them all and then started clicking through all the other links at the bottom of the page to things like 2 Tone portraits, Weebles and Fisher Price spaceships. Ace fun. Go loose yourself.
I shall now head to the record market at Spitalfields where I shall loose myself in wild conversations about matrix numbers, inner sleeves and halitosis.
Oh, and date for the diary, 19th January, when I am playing a five hour set of very beautiful music at Spiritland. Free to get in. Nice drinks. Sit down and hear records through the ridiculous £400,000 stereo.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
