Hello, I hope all is groovy. It's groovy once more here as the painter has gone.
Sad news last night as we learnt that electronic and sonic poineer Pierre Henry died. Rest In Peace Pierre, and as a result there are two 50p Friday Pierre Henry classics on the 50p Friday page.
Also, you can hear his music in a short excerpt from the Love Life Of The Octopus documentary from 1965 here. Or see this superb documentary all about him made in 2007. His tape archive sure looked awesome.
There is also a brand new Trunk album. This is out in two weeks but available right here right now. It's the first ever issue of music from the archives of Dutch underground auteur and all-round maverick Franz Zwartjes. The album is basically two sides of sound taken directly from his tapes. Odd, engaing, beautiful, mysterious and melancholy all at the same time. It can be bought on vinyl here. There are only 500 on vinyl. It will not be repressed. But there is a Volume Two scheduled. And please note, for some weird reason it says "Mark Murphy" as the artist. He is not the artist. He has nothing to do with this album at all.
In case you have no idea who Franz Zwartjes is, here is an example of his world / work. And he is NOT Mark Muphy.
There will also be more about the new Basil Kirchin sampler LPs next week, so save those pennies. And you might have to draw something.
I'm now off to meet the man who introduced me to jazz and illegal substances (back in the 1980s) out there in the Docklands, then it's off camping in the woods with the school parents, school kids, pets and teacher's pets. I'm planning on regretting the trip by this evevning,
Thanks for listening
Jonny
