Hello I hope all is groovy. It's pretty groovy here, and thanks to all who turned up and bought records at the Indie Label Market last Saturday. Someone even tried to buy my jumper.
So, today it's December 1st (yes, my kids have already opened door number one on their chokky advent calendars) and as we hurtle towards Christmas I have nothing festive to offer today. That's because it all starts a happening next week. That's when I start to load up Ye Olde Trunk Shoppe with festive joy, and when the all new Trunk Christmas mix will be born. So more about all that next week.
But in the meantime I have the 50p Friday album, called Pardon My Doo-Wah. Yes, it sounds slightly ruder than it really is, and is simply a very early album by Neil Hefti (what a GOD!) with a loads of great singers going Doo-Wah-Doo-Wah a lot. The opening cue is ace. And my wife is currently in the USA and this makes me think of her. Pardon my Doo-Wah can be found here.
I also have news of some other things: Dirty Fan Male tickets are now up for grabs. This annual Trunk night out at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club is very popular, sells out very fast and seats / tables are very limited. It is on Monday 18th December, it's £15 per person on the door. BUT you have to email me directly to book tickets / tables and I will send you back an email to confirm.
If you can make it to Dalston on Sunday, I have put on the first of a series of Sunday cinematic treats with The Rio Cinema: Crystal Voyager, possibly the greatest surf film of all time (from 1973) is being shown on the big screen. This rarely, rarely happens - by this I mean Crystal Voyager being show on a big screan. I really can't wait. I mean this is a proper psychedelic surfing experience made by the legendary George Greenough and with Pink Floyd music to boot! What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I'm introducing it. Even my kids are coming. Tickets/ info all here. It's even being shown with some excerpts from Fantastic Planet, which was its original double bill on first release in London.
Finally, if you can make it to Stoke Newington over the next ten days (just up the road from Dalston!) there is a small pop up shop with local N16 makers selling things, including groovy prints, groovy posters and even groovy ski jumpers provided by yours truly. The address is The Gallery, Edwards Lane, N16 0DS.
As Crystal Voyager is on at the weekend, this is a short version of the classic Surfwise documentary about the unusual life of the Paskowitz family.
I'm now going to open up the pop up shop and then it's back home to try and finish the Trunk Christmas mix, which this year has an odd Japanese feel at the moment.
Thanks for listening.
