hello, I hope all is groovy and that you had a good Easter. It's fine here, although we are in the middle of school holidays which means multiple sleepovers, lots of me saying "NO" and endless battles against Fortnight (you either know what I'm talking about here or have escaped such crazed video game madness).
Anyway, my wife took our youngest to the living hell that is Legoland yesterday - it is nothing like the TV advert apparently. She came back angry about 1) the coffee there and 2) the mass of plastic waste everywhere too but also with a picture of a Lego owl in a tree. So today's 50p Friday is all about an owl. Yes, it's "The Owl Song", plus some other stuff. "The Owl Song" was written and performed by the unique talent Ray Ellington (unusually his mum was Jewish, his dad African American) who was / is still a legend and worked with The Goons - and has already featured on Britxotica! releases. The 50p downloads today also include Mr Lucky Goes Latin as I've played "Lujon" a few times this week and gorped at the sleeve a lot. What a mindblowing piece of music "Lujon" still is. All 50p madness is here.
This morning I woke to the sad news that Eric Bristow, The Crafty Cockney from Stoke Newington has just died, so here is that amazing documentary about him by cult documentary maker John Samson. Here also is the Not The Nine O'Clock News sketch about dart players of the same period.
I am now off to see the Gursky at The South Bank with the kids. This is at the expense of missing the Spitalfields Record fayre but these sacrifices have to be made every now and again. So I'm told.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
