hello, I hope all is groovy. It's pretty groovy here.

Sad news last Sunday as we heard that the great folk artist, all-round genius, sailor, god of children's TV etc Peter Firmin had passed away. He was the sort of man who when you met him seemed to never tire of anything or anybody and was just going to go on and on and on forever. And of course his work will live on for generations to come. I remembered this week that I'd recorded him talking in his kitchen some while back, when we were making the Art Of Smallfilms book. I went with a mock up of the book and we went through it, image by image, page by page and he explained what went on, how he made things and all with the occasional interjection by Joan, his amazing wife (who knitted the Clangers). If you have not heard any or all of the Postgate / Firmin / Elliot recordings they are availble today on the 50p Friday page.

In other news there is currently a soundtrack on-line selling at £1400 with still a few days to go. I don't have the soundtrack but looked it up to see what the fuss was all about, and came across this remarkable spooky Bollywood lark. Sticking with the subject of rare and groovy soundtracks, I will be playing a 5 hour set of such things at Spiritland this coming Thursday, 12th July. Free to get in. Big impressive sound system much of which was built in Nottingham.

I was now planning on whizzing off to the record fayre, but was told very early this morning that for the next month and a half the Friday Record Fayre will be on a Wednesday.

Thanks for listening as always

Jonny
