Hello, I hope all is groovy. It's well groovy here, and only a few days left of the school holidays. Which means next week I can get back to proper work. Like making more records.
So, first up today is news of two new Trunk LPs that are actually here and available right now.
First we have the long awaited KPM Jazz Conventions LP. I sent this off to get made in June last year. It took an age to come back and when it did arrive the sleeve was all wrong. This was my fault because rather than make a green KPM style sleeve, I replicated some of the KPM sleeves I have here, where the library who was working with them pasted the sleeve notes onto the front of a plain white sleeve. This looked right but the sleeve that arrived had no spine so would have split instantly if I were to send them out. Then, the new sleeves with spines took an age to come back but are now here. Over a year later. Anyway, it's here now, and musically, this is the rarest KPM music - a compilation of the three legendary Jazz Convention LPs that they pressed and includes awesome, lively big band sounds from the greatest big band of all time - the Clarke-Boland Big Band. There are just 500 of these. I won't repress because it's been so totally traumatic getting this lot made.
The second new release is the 5th in the Britixotica! series - this time it's Britixotica! Goes Wild!!! Percussive Pop and Crazy Latin! Yes, men in pants too (see the sleeve). Here we have more rare and lively British sounds including a superb version of "House Of Bamboo", the original "Johnny One Note" track used to introduce John Craven and even Basil Kirchin gets in on the act in this one.
Both new Trunk LPs can be found here.
For the 50p Friday offering today we have an audio trip on the Ffestiniog Railway. This is a classic narrow gauge steam railway where even pets have to pay. I went on the Holt (Norfolk) steam railway this holiday and indeed, had to pay £2 for the dog. Then he didn't even get a ticket because they had run out. Anyway, this charming trip is available here, for 50p.
And back to KPM again - coming up in October is a rare performance by the KPM all stars - the last time I saw this was at the Jarvis Cocker Meltdown back in 2007. I compered the event then, I am compering the event in October - John Cameron, Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Brian Bennett will all be there, and hopefully they will play the Grandstand theme twice like they did last time. Anyway, it will be a fab night, if you have never seen the KPM All Stars live it is an amazing musical evening out. Tickets and information can be found here.
In other news, my 12 year old has starting acting like a teenager.
Thanks for listening as always.
