Hi there, I hope all is groovy. It's pretty groovy here, although I did have to have an invasive medical proceedure this week that could well put you off breakfast and lunch if I tell you more. So I won't. But all fine now.
I have quite a bit to get through so I will be brief: The 50p Friday album is a bizarre LP by the legendary Johnny Puleo And His Harmonica Gang. Johnny was a mere 4 ft 6 inches, but was giant on his chosen instrument. He became a bit of a star in the USA, was even used jumping out of a post box to promote the all new USA Zip codes. I have this LP on from time to time and it always catches my ear for a different reason every time. Great version of "The Peanut Vendor" btw. Johnny Puleo can be found here for 50p. And this is him and his gang on USA TV in 1965. A really great clip.
This week in N16 there has been an exciting little pop up book and record shop. Put together by a gang of parents from school and curated by Gilles Peterson, it has been a very successful little venture, will all profits going to an important new local charity. The "Look Up Pop Up" will run this weekend, BUT the bespoke counters, display units and hanging things which were made for this one event by the prop makers at Pinewood Studios and designed by architect Michel Schranz are free to anyone who wants to come and get them! Pics of the units can be found here. Email me for more information and contacts. It would be sad to see them be broken up when they have proved so perfectly practical.
Next Sunday, 7th October, the day after the sold out KPM All Stars gig, there is a one-off event with John Cameron, Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett being interviewed by me me me, taking question and talking about how they made their most awesome music. It's at Spiritland, 6pm until 9pm, tickets are very, very limited and can be found here.
Finally, there was a full moon this week, which prompted me into some odd research. I came across this excellent "Dial A Moon" web page, where you can watch an excellent 4 minute film of all the 2018 Moon Phases (with supplemental graphics). Hell yeah!
I'm now off to Screw-Fix. Enough said I reckon.
Thanks for listening
Jonny
New of the next Trunk LP possibly next week, until then
