Hi there, I hope all is well. Pretty groovy here, this week the teen has taken to raiding my wardrobe. I walked into the house yesterday and he was sitting in the front room wearing one of my killer 1980s sweatshirts. This meant he had been upstairs, into my wardrobe, then rustled about trying to match up bits of my wardrobe with his new weird camo trouser / jean hybrid things. I suppose I should be flattered. And he did look slightly better in it than I do.
Anyway, it has been a big week for me and I've made quite a big decision. For 20 years I've been doing radio shows - The OST Show started in 2002 and I've made that two hour show every week since then. And loads of other shows on loads of other stations too. And all for free. SO, I have decided to spread my wings a bit. The idea is simple - I've started a new show on Patreon. This is a weekly "Jonny Trunk Show" featuring the Trunk record collection, the Trunk music archive, things I have found, unreleased music I own, reel to reels, new discoveries, old gold, all genres, all sorts, all fun. From the usual film music to jazz, exotics, super folk, esoteric madness, school music, electronics, ambient oddness, dub, just like the influential Trunk recommendations pages all those years ago, but every week. There are four shows a month. For just £4 a month in total. And only available via Patreon. So amazing things for the price of a cup of coffee and a biscuit. Or a pint at a cheap pub. And you can read about it and sign up here. Having put this together I've come to the conclusion that it may well be the most exciting, invigorating and refreshing musical thing I've done in ages. The first show is already done (on my new radio making equipment, so sounding super too) and will hit subscribers inboxes from about midday onwards today. It would be lovely to have you along for the lovely ride. And there will be exclusive extras along the way.
This week I decided to start a new Instagram account too. I was an estate agent back in the 1980s when I left school. The scars still run deep.
Also I was taking to John from Vintage Hackney Wick yesterday. He put me on to this film about Joe Buzzard the record collector. Worth a watch. And on my way back from Hackney yesterday I stopped at a supermarket to get supplies for the family. I bought stuff, then spent about five minutes slightly panicking because I'd lost my bicycle helmet. I looked everywhere I'd been in the shop. I then asked the supermarket security guard type person if he could keep an eye out for it, and he told me that it was still on my head and not lost at all.
I'm now off to the Spitalfields Record Fayre to buy more records for my all new record show. On my bike. And wearing my helmet.
Thanks for listening as always
Jonny
