HI there, I hope all is well. All OK here, although the 16 year old has this week earned himself a naughty point (or whatever they are now called) at college for "slouching" a bit in class. Apparently there were three of them "slouching" which was by one account proving to be slightly disruptive in a lecture all about movie cameras. As a result I have deducted 5p from his pocket money. So that's 50%.
Last weekend I actually went record shopping for the first time with the 12 year old and his chum. This was a truly joyous experience seeing two young boys asking for records at the counter ("got any Frank Ocean" at Rough Trade East), and thumbing through all the hip hop for about an hour and a half. My son bought two Tyler The Creator LPs - I think his chum bought some Dre - and we came home and listened. It was his "first time" opening a record (splitting the seal with his trousers, natch) pulling the LP out and then putting the needle on the record. The best bit came at the end of side one, when I demonstrated how to remove the stylus and flip the record over...to which the little guy nearly fell over, as he'd never realised there were two sides to a record. He now likes them twice as much.
Don't forget, the Groovy Fayre on 29th October. Records, labels, books, vintage tees, watches, clothes, posters, snooker, beer, fun, all sorts.
In other news it has been a bumper week for videos. Please watch this until 1: 44
And if you have never seen Jack Nicholson accept his first Oscar, watch this. RIP Nurse Ratched.
I'm now off to swim in very cold water and then take about 4 hours to warm up.
Thanks for listening as always
Jonny
