Morning, I hope all is well. All fine here. I've been camping in Kent this week with 12 teens. Basically Teen Two and his mates. I went to supervise with two other brave dads.
I got bitten severely by mosquitos (even with SAS grade repellent) and at times the camp felt a little like a military exercise as we were instructing "the lads" to pick up their rubbish, wash up their plates, and trying to find out whose socks / pants / tees / discarded trainers / spoons were left lying about the field over the three day stay.
But they all had a great time, swimmimg in the sea, getting sunburnt and most exciting of all, meeting a convicted criminal on the train down there who'd "done a six year stretch" and played cool music, apparently.
In other news there is a new Trunk 7" now available. A Balearic classic in waiting called "Abaco Cruise". A super rare 1983 recording by Cay Gottlieb, a man born in Zurich whose family moved to the Bahamas when he was a kid. It's a lovely soft, groovy, painfully laid back thing that makes you think of sunsets and sand and super friends and stuff like that. And with a killer B side too, all about going out on a little boat. Just 500 copies made. Full colour sleeve. No repress. Cai (as in "Sky") can be bought here. And you can hear it here.
From Balearic to really boring, I watched this thing last weekend and actually couldn't stop watching. It's about model railways - from the TV series "Model World". Here's all you need to know.
And here are some records from John Peel's archive that are selling next week. Basically his radio show, but for sale.
I'm now off to buy some lotion to put on my really itchy bites.
