hello, I hope all is groovy.
It's interesting this end, I have nearly moved, but just starting on 7000ish LPs today. Should be fun. I have already pulled out some LPs that will not be going into temporary storage, one of which is today's #50pFriday LP. It's called Rah! by Mark Murphy. To me this was a formative jazz LP back in the 1980s when I was first played it. I'd never heard anything quite like it, all moody jazz and infectious, dynamic, complex and often twisted vocals delivered faultlessly by the beatnik on the cover. In fact the sleeve also chimes a little with what is going on - all back to school / college now for some, and there he sits, with his protesting shout and economic text book (apparently the USA was in economic meltdown when the LP was made). Anyway, you can find this amazing 50p download here.
Also, I have news of a brand new mini venture. I've teamed up with James from Votary / The Roundtable and we have a tiny label thing just starting called Pheon, only pressing limited 500 copy vinyl runs of rare, sought after library music. The first LP is the first ever repress of the aquatic masterpiece "Sea Fantasy". Composed by maestro Armando Sciascia and issued originally on his own label back in 1972, this amazing conceptual library LP - featuring some cues used in the mondo film Mysteries Of The Gods - is a classic slice of beautiful electronic and modern classical music that to some listeners (like me) is a peak in deep, underwater music - think Jaques Cousteau, De Roubaix and that. The LP is not available in the shops yet, but can be bought at a reduced price right here right now. If you want to hear bits, have a look on youtube.
I was also sent this link yesterday confirming the fact that Marc Jacobs has put one of my old groovy books up in his very special decadent book collection for AnOther Magazine. The book is Dressing for Pleasure. Hell yeah! Here is a video excerpt of the amazing documentary made by John Samson about Dressing for Pleasure / Atomage back in 1977...and here's another clip from it featuring Jordon and McLaren. Beware, bososms.
And finally I'm not the only person on the move. In fact the great British composer / arranger John Cameron is also on the move. He's downsizing and asked me to sell his LPs and singles for him. Basically these are LPs and singles made by and owned by John Cameron, kept in his studio. They are for sale and start at £1. These were JC's LPs, library albums and singles and include some of his jazz, odd soundtrack bits, library work, things Picadilly Line, World Of Oz and that insane Lionel Bart concept LP Isn't This Where We Came in and more. Please email me for a list of the LPs and 7" singles that I have here.
I am now off to box up my own collection. Oh god.
Thanks for listening.
