Hello, I hope all is groovy.
I was up very late last night - firstly I went with the Hackney Woodcraft Folk to the Hackney Empire's panto, which was incredible. Oh no it wasn't etc. Then we got home and I was up until about 2am watching the Ringo Star garage sale auction on line (his White Album number 000000001 sells tonight - it's already $100,000), and also getting part one of the Trunk Christmas larks underway.
Yes the Trunk Christmas larks: to start with, every Friday in December there will be a #Festive50p album, and today is is the charismatic kooky sounds of the Three Suns and their Ding Dong Dandy Christmas. It's a great and billiantly mad album that works ever better if you are a bit tiddly. The #50pFestive album can be found right here.
Secondly I have opened Jonny's Christmas Sack 2015, which is full of all sorts: having been obsessed with old library music this year I have ended up making some library logo tees and sweatshirts - Illustration Musicale (IM), and a bizarre Italian label called "New Tape:" which is pretty darn cool. I have dared to make my own Xmas cards (in packs of five), which feature the Death Star blowing up the star of Bethlehem, the Dirty Fan Male CD is back having been out of print for about five years - complete with rude Spunky Arthur artwork - and there are heaps of classic Trunk albums starting at just £1.49 - you will find vinyl if you dig and click about. There is also the Trunk Bread Sauce Mix, with well over an hour of curious, rare and occasionaly funky Christmas fayre for just £4.99. The Bread Sauce Mix if free if you spend £20 or more in ye olde shoppe - just make sure you click "free when you spend £20" when yopu are buying. More super groovy items will be added to the Christmas Sack next week, but more about that after the weekend. Jonny's bulging Christmas Sack can be found right here.
IN other news, this week a chum of mine who works for movietone found some rare Daphne Oram footage which you can see here. And if you want to hear Philip Larkin reading The Less Decived - his first major book and first ever recording, it can be found in the normal #50pFriday page. Why Larkin? Well this week marked the 30th anniversary of his death.
I'm now on my way to try and get my prints finished, pick up more tee shirts, get some more Christmas mix CDs made, send out Britxotica LPs and try and stick my head into the Spitalfields Record Fayre. If one single record dealer is wearing a santa hat I shall take a picture and post it on instagram and donate £20 to the Hackney Empire Save Our Stage Fund.
Thanks for listening.
Jonny
