This has taken me years. It all started when I saw a 1970s brochure for a Quad amplifier. I stupidly thought no one has ever done a book about Hi Fi brochures and so I should get on and do it. Well several years later I know why no one had tried before, because they are just really hard to find. Like really hard. I think very few were actually made, and it seems like many were only given away at launches or big Hi Fi shows, but not in shops, hence the scarcity. Anyway, after a few years of eagerly digging about (everywhere) I found enough to make this lovely 240 page book. From 3A (Art And Acoustic Appliquée) to Zenith, there are brochures from the early 1950s to the 1990s, inadvertently tracing the history of the modern Hi Fi from the "build you own speaker" era all the way to the CD player. As you may well expect the book is not just about HI Fi or nostalgia, it's also picking up on the superb period graphics, styles and art direction. So there are fab fonts, weird photography, wacky ideas a plenty, groovy apartments and remember, most of the brochures have not been seen since they were first printed. The "Erotica" of the title was original put there as I find old Hi Fi a bit "sexy". But there are several brochures throughout the book that feature women - it seems like those lazy marketeers back in the 1960s, 1970s and even the 1980s still relied on women to get their male customers looking at their tech. And some of the images they came up with are hilarious. The edition of Audio Erotica I am selling here is a very limited edition - it has the standard book (which, by the way has a superb metallic style screen printed cover!!!)
