BASIC MATHS - Ron Geesin

Wow! So you’re telling me Ron Geesin made this kooky electro groovy score to a really progressive maths educational programme on Central TV in 1980 and it’s musically anarchic and amazing and it’s never been issued before? Until now. Wow again!!!! And there’s 30 tracks!!!

This is very typical of Ron Geesin in many ways. First he emails me about the music to Basic Maths, which he has been reminded of by a Basic Maths fan. Ron sends me a link to a Basic Maths show on YouTube. I then watch it. It’s a slightly anarchic 1980 / 81 Central TV educational show - and I’d left school by then so it really meant nothing to me in the nostalgic way I tend to operate. But as soon as I started watching I saw that its feet were firmly in the progressive past, with great presenters, simple repetitive learning formulas and Ron’s very groovy sonic accompaniment. So I was hooked and as usual, Ron had won. I asked him to dub off all the music and we could see where it went. Well, as you can see and now feel, it went here, in the new LP of classic Ron Geesin sonic joy and boundless creativity. I know for a fact that I annoy Ron with much of my attitude and methods towards making LPs, but one thing that is clear to me, is that Ron really annoys me. Because he’s just so darn good at doing these kinds of quick, brilliant, inspiring, entertaining and edgy sounds, formed pretty much out of his mind in minutes, possibly seconds and maybe recorded just as quickly. What a genius.
