The legend has it that Johnson sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in Mississippi and went on to record several hugely influential records before he died at the age of 27. When his recording were issued in 1961 a new audience found his sounds quite extraordinary, and you can trace his influence running through the musical arteries of 60s R&B, jazz and pop. So there.
